Lake Baikal is located in the center of Asia. The Lake is near to Irkutsk Region and Buryatia Republic. The lake stretches from southwest to northeast for 20 km in the form of a giant crescent. The lake depth is 1742 m. Lake Baikal is the deepest lake on the planet!


BAIKAL CLIMATE

Baikal's water mass affects the coastal climate. Winter climate is milder here, however, summer is cooler. Spring comes 10-15 days other areas which is located near to the Lake. Autumn is quite long.  Maximum recorded air temperature is + 34 degrees Celsius, and average temperature rises in recent years. The Baikal region is distinguished by a large total sunshine duration. For example, the sunshine duration is up to 2524 hours in Bolshoye Goloustnoe.  It is more than at the Black Sea resorts.  There are only 37 cloudy days in Bolshoye Goloustnoe and 48 cloudy days on the Olkhon Island. Special features of the climate are caused by the Baikal winds which are called  Barguzin, Sarma, Verkhovik, Kultuk, etc.
